Granny came out and sat down in her old worn rocker. “Lacy, I have to tell you something. Something important.”
Lacy looked at Granny. She looked worried. She was wringing her apron with her hands. She had lived with Granny most of her 16 years. Granny never talked about her mother, just that she left her with her grandmother when she was a baby.
Lacy got up and went into the house. Tears started to well up in her eyes.
Granny was sitting at the table. “There is one more thing. You have a sister. Your mother took her and I kept you. She could not afford two so I raised you. Your sister is your twin.”
Lacy was stunned. How could this be? She had a sister and she was a twin.
She went upstairs. She brushed her long blond hair. She pulled on her favorite jeans and put on her t-shirt. She looked out the window. The boat was still there. Should she go out and jump into the water and swim over to the boat and paddle off so she never has to meet these people.
Part of her wanted to see the sister she didn’t know she had.
She heard a car drive up to the house. Car doors opened and shut. She ran over to look outside. A woman and a girl were arguing. The girl looked just like her. The woman opened the trunk and pulled out 2 suitcases.
“You have to stay here for a little while. He is old. When he dies I will get all of his money. Then I will come get you both.” She got back in the car and drove off, leaving the girl standing there with her suitcases.
It dawned on her…..she didn’t have to go anywhere. She went outside.
Things that make you go “hmmmm…” Good viewpoints, way to look into someone’s mind! Makes me glad I didn’t have to go through something like that! At least she got to stay with her grandmother and get to know her twin, and hopefully her mom doesn’t come back too soon!!!
To have the rug pulled out from under you and replaced, all in the span of . . . some minutes? Wow.
Whoa, great twist and the flash flood of emotions is captured so well.
I found out when I was 18 that I have 2 half-siblings, so I can relate to all this. Well done.
