I was sitting on the couch, TV remote control in hand.  Ready to watch a show I recorded on Mexican cooking.  She was putting chopped up onions in a blender with chopped garlic and some chicken broth.  She was about to throw some re-hydrated peppers in.  She was making a molé  (sounds like mole lay) chicken.  She had just took a big spoon and scooped up 3 big spoons of peanut butter, her secret ingredient.   My husband said “Put your shoes on, we are going somewhere.”  I clicked off the TV, still have not seen the rest of the cooking show.  “Where exactly are we going?”

He said we were going to go bowling.  Ummmmmm, OK, we haven’t been bowling in the 13 years I have known him.  I have a bowling ball in a bag in my closet, I got it probably 16 years ago.  I used to be on bowling leagues.  It was something to do.  I never got good at it.

I went upstairs and dug around the shelves and found the bag.  The bowling shoes were in it too.  I tried on the shoes, they don’t fit anymore.  My feet have grown since then.  I wonder if your feet grow for life.    My bowling ball is heavier than I thought it was.  We went across town and found the bowling alley.  We had to rent shoes and pay for a lane.  It was all electronic, no paper for keeping score, it did it automatically.  It was my turn.  I hadn’t done this for so long.  I picked up the ball, it was heavy.  “How did I used to throw this” I thought.    I walked up and swung by my arm back and the ball fell off my hand.  Thud, right there behind me.  Great start.  I have to get the holes re-drilled, my fingers didn’t fit in the holes very well and it was hard to hold on to it,  to throw it.  I put it back in my bag and found a house bowling ball, an ugly, scratched, beat up ball, it was a 9 pounder.  It felt a lot lighter than my bowling ball.   My son has never been bowling and he kept throwing the ball in the gutters.  My husband noticed that on the lanes with all the little children, they had rails come up in the gutters, so they would not get gutter balls.  I went up to the lady at the desk and asked her if my son could use the rails, so she typed it into the computer, so when his name came up, the rails came up.  He then threw the ball, it would hit the rails and then bounce over and go down and hit the pins.  He then started loving the experience.  We played one game and Ididn’t do too great.  I got a 56.  We paid for another game.  The next game we started getting used to it and did a little better.  I made a 96 on the second game.  After that game was over we decided to play one last time.  It was a Saturday night so the price was high.  I think it cost $50 with the games, and shoe rental for 3 people.  My son wanted Nachos and cheese and a soda.  The Nachos was $6 and the drink was $5.  They charge a lot for the food there.  We didn’t bowl so great on the 3rd game.  We should have quit at 2 games.  I think your arm gets tired after a while.  When I woke up this morning, my body was stiff all over.  I had used muscles I had not used in years.

In the afternoon, my son turned on his Wii game and we started playing the bowling game.  I thought it was fun.  I bowl great on that thing, better than in real life.  I sat there and swung my arm and acted like I was bowling for hours.  Then we played target shooting games and more bowling games.  I stopped and my arm was really sore.  Now my muscles in my legs and butt are hurting and aching.  I think I over did it today.  It hurts to even take a step.  I am sure I will feel better tomorrow…………..I hope.

We are going to go to the bowling pro shop tomorrow to price bowling balls and shoes, they said they have a special on them.  Maybe I can get my bowling ball re-drilled.
