In my new kitchen, there is going to be a counter island with a sink and dishwasher. I did not order any can lights to be put into the ceiling. When you go in to tell them all the options you have to basically go over a giant list of options and all the options cost extra money. Each can light costs about $250 dollars. (I didn’t get those.) If you want wiring to put up your own light you have to pay for that. We had wiring put over the sink so I could put up a pretty light fixture. There are cabinets across the back wall. The house comes with a flourescent light in the kitchen, but we will take that off and I will get a nice track lighting to put up to shine the lights toward the stove and countertop across the back wall.
We are getting Corian countertops with the beautiful Corian built-in sink. That was an extra $2,500 for that. The countertop is $2,000, the sink is $550. The design lady said that nobody ever orders the sink because of the cost. I did because it is all one smooth look and looks beautiful. I ordered the sand color Corian, the bottom one (in photo)and the sink will be the cream color. The choices for the sink were so close, white and some off white. They looked basically the same. There are color levels, 1, 2 and 3 for Corian colors. Each level costs about $1,000 more. I just chose level 1. Each level did not look much different from each other.
I went with a light countertop because I chose brown cabinets. The cabinets that come with the house are very basic cheap cabinets. The design lady showed us the upgraded cabinets that were in a model house. Of course those cabinets looked beautiful. They have raised panels and knobs (I love knobs on cabinets, it makes it easier to open the doors.) They are built better. They cost $3,000 more if you want those. Of course I wanted those. This is the cabinet I chose. This is the brown color I chose.
I also will have white appliances. I hate stainless appliances. They are pretty, but I don’t want them. I watch these house decoration shows and everyone has to have stainless appliances. I did put Stainless appliances in one house I had. I hate them. You have to clean those everyday. The cleaner paste streaks and is really hard to get streak free. If you have water drip down the front, like on your fridge or dishwasher, it shows water spots and fingerprints and you have to clean it again. I will never have those again. I also ordered a nice stove, a double oven stove. It is going to be a gas, convection oven.
I think it will be nice to have a double oven, so you can cook at different temperatures, like if you are baking a turkey and maybe bake bread at a different temperature. That cost an extra $1300 dollars. Those stoves in the store is $1800. They give you a credit from the basic stove that they provide. The stove that they provide is awful, (the one that comes with the house.
I also upgraded the dishwasher to a Kitchen Aide, it is stainless steel inside and quiet, also white.
I am going to get a light like this one for over the sink. It is sold at Home Depot.
The carpet will be a caramel brownish color. It is hard to describe, so when I move in, I will take pictures.
The house will be built by June. I can’t wait.
I’m looking forward to seeing your pictures. i don’t like stainless steel either, I think it looks cold. It must be a lot of fun choosing but those dollars must be adding up! It’s important to have the kitchen you want as you have to spend a lot of time in it
It sounds like it’s going to be beautiful Connie.
Thanks for letting me camp out in your blog this morning. I had a great time and tried to leave my campsite as clean as when I arrived.
Thanks for visiting. You are always welcome.
