I cooked corned beef and cabbage in the slow cooker. I love that thing. The food tastes so delicious. First I put a cut up onion in the bottom of the pot. Then chop up carrots so the meat sits on it. It gets it off the bottom of the pot. Trim all the fat off the corned beef. There is a big layer of at on the meat. Ewwwww, just cut it off. The meat I bought was called the flat cut. I noticed that the meat shrinks up a lot almost by a half. It was still plenty for us to eat. Ok, back to how I made it. After you put the meat in the pot, sprinkle on the little package of spices that come with it. Then fill the pot with water, with enough to cover the meat. I then put in some small round potatoes and carrots. Cook it on high for 1 hour. I do that so the stuff gets hot inside. Then I cooked it on low for 7 hours. After 6 hours cut up your cabbage in wedges, cut out the core. Nobody wants to eat that. Put the cabbage in the pot, I push it halfway into the water. Cover the pot and continue cooking for 2 hours. When it is done my husband slices the corned beef with an electric knife in thin slices and serves it with horse radish sauce. Yummmm. It is so tender and delicious.
The next day I took the left over corned beef and cut it into little pieces and I saved the potatoes and cut them up too. I cut a little onion too and cooked it all in a fry pan with some butter. It was so good for breakfast.
So I got two good meals out of this little $8.50 corned beef.
