Weekly photo challenge: Grand

The Weekly photo challenge is Grand.
It snowed the other night. Snow is grand. It covers miles and miles. It covers streets and yards and cars. I think when it first snows it looks grand. I went outside and took this picture, when there was no tire tracks in the road. It just looks like a carpet of snow.

I have one more picture. Saturday we went downtown to see the Reno Philharmonic orchestra. They were doing a Christmas show. I thought this was grand. Hearing the whole orchestra was wonderful. It was like the music that they play for movies, but I was right there watching it and hearing it. Even though I had the nose bleed seats. They were grand…..and wonderful.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Changing seasons

The Weekly Photo Challenge is Changing Seasons.

I have  lived here in Reno, Nevada for 1 year and 7 months. It has hardly rained since I have moved here, but it rained last week, a lot. There was flood warnings that the Truckee river was going to flood downtown. The river did not flood because the rain turned to snow up in the mountains. It did rain a lot in my yard though. It looked like a little lake.

The wind blew really hard too. It blew over a couple of semi trucks on the highway and it blew my neighbor’s fence across the street, over and broke the boards holding it. I went to see it close up. The winds were probably 70 MPH. There were waves on my little lake in my back yard. Too bad it was so cold, I could have used my boogie board.

It did snow here too. It melted later on in the day. I excited by the snow, but it didn’t last long.

This was taken before the guys fence blew over across the street. My poor blow up turkey was covered with snow. I did take a picture of the blow up turkey to show you, I inflated it to take a picture, then I packed him away until next year. I didn’t get to inflate him even on Thanksgiving day because of the wind.

Weekly photo challenge: Contrast

The weekly photo challenge is Contrast.

One morning, it snowed. The road was all frozen. I like the contrast of the black road and the white snow and ice.

The other day I bought some fresh brussels sprouts. They were still on the stalk, so I cut them all off and put them in a strainer and washed them off. I like the contrast of the solid green with the liquid spray of the water, looking all sparkling and wet.

Snow in Arizona….yes it did

It rained for the past two days here in Phoenix, Arizona.  Right now it is just after midnight and it is 38 degrees.  I am too lazy to look up the symbol for degrees…but it is bugging me I will go look it up.  OK it is 38º F.  (It is alt 167 press the alt and number pad at the same time.)  ☺

It snowed today, several times.  Lots of little flurries flying through the sky.  It was really windy too.  It didn’t stick to the ground though.  The mountains were all covered in white at the top.  (click pictures to view bigger if you want to.)

The road, Hwy I17 to Flagstaff was closed last night.  It was really pouring down rain and thundering and lightening all night here.  I woke up with a headache.  When it rains bad, I have a headache.  My ear was also hurting.  I could not hear real well.  It felt like there was fluid behind my eardrum.  Probably from the air pressure outside.  I would hold my nose and blow to try to pop my ear, but it didn’t work.  It was awful.  It was like I was under water trying to hear things.  I took two Sudafed tablets and it didn’t help.  I finally took a hot shower and just let the hot water run over my head and I could finally pop my ears.  I took two more Sudafed tablets and it made it better.  I can now hear.  The fluid must have drained.  I think it has stopped raining and snowing and the pressure must be better because I do feel better now.  I like watching it snow, even if it was a fleeting glimpse.
